WHAT ARE MONTAGES?

The sequence in which a set of electrodes is being recorded or replayed is called the montage. With paper EEGs the record and replay montages are the same since there is no way to go back in time and alter what has already been done. With digital EEGs this is no longer true. Regardless of what the recording montage was, we can display the same information in several different formats which sometimes look dramatically different and innocuous looking signals can change into the vicious looking spikes they are in reality. With the re-montaging that digital EEG has made possible, there is no place an abnormal signal can hide.
